Something Magical is Happening

Hello to all our new followers! It’s so encouraging to watch new people discover us and get excited about our mission!

Since soft-launching in March, we’ve been busy behind-the-scenes as we work to bring this magical project to life.

We’ve gained a vitally important new team member, (more about this champion later), had some absolute Melbourne legends contact us directly to express their excitement and offer support, and toured Kindred Studios in Yarraville as we search for the perfect venue for our workshops and showcase performance.

We’ve also held various meetings to figure out all the things we need to do to help us birth this musical baby.

The musicians that we bring on board are central to the success of Feminal Music so it’s vitally important to us that they be paid for their expertise and time. So, my wonderful co-director has been exploring a number of different grants to ensure this happens. We feel loudly confident that we’ll be successful with this. Updates to follow.

In the meantime, we wanted to copy this paragraph from the Unglamorous Music Project’s blog. For those who don’t know, Unglam is the inspiration behind Feminal Music. As of 2024, Unglam has spawned more than 20 bands, comprising of 80 women, who are currently gigging across the UK.

Here is their list of reasons why beginner women and enbys can do this:

  • Simple garage rock sounds great;
  • Women’s voices sound great;
  • There’s lots of potential help out there;
  • Audiences want to see and hear something different;
  • We can create amazing original songs;
  • With self-belief and a few basic skills you can make great art;
  • A community of women musicians is a powerful thing.

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Love,
